Actuary of Desire

Of the 8.3 billion souls presently populating this earth, roughly 49.5% are women, yielding some 4.1 billion. Narrow that to the conventional prime dating band — say ages 18 to 45 — and, using a rough demographic distribution across a 90-year lifespan, the pool contracts to approximately 1.23 billion women alive at any given moment who fall within that window. Apply a further filter — the top 2% by whatever metric of attraction, ambition, or mutual chemistry the man in question prizes — and the number settles near 24.6 million women, globally, at any instant in time. This is not a small number. It is, in fact, an absurdly large one — larger than the population of most nations — and it is this scale that seduces the imagination into believing the game is infinite.

But population is a spatial abundance; time is a linear scarcity, and no amount of DMs, frequent-flyer miles, or social capital can bend that second axis. A man entering his prime at 35 and sustaining it — through discipline, health, and reinvention — until 65 has exactly 30 years, or 10,950 days, to work with. Subtract the non-negotiables: roughly 8 hours of sleep, 6 hours tending business and the compounding of capital, 3 hours of reading, practicing, composing, or otherwise sharpening the instrument of the self, and another hour of logistical friction — rent checks, tenants, lawyers, the quiet bureaucracy of an independent life. That leaves roughly 6 free hours per day, not all of which can or should be devoted to courtship, since courtship itself is not merely conquest but cultivation — treating a woman and her circle with the patience of a man who understands that abundance without discernment is just noise.

Even if the pool is 24 million and the days are 10,950, the binding constraint is never supply — it is attention, depth, and the compounding return on a life well-curated rather than merely well-populated. A man who treats each connection as a transaction to be maximized in volume will find the numbers hollow; a man who treats scarcity of *time* as the only true currency will find that even a fraction of that pool — pursued with intention, generosity, and genuine reciprocity — yields a richer compounding than the raw statistics could ever promise. The world may open its doors to him, but doors opened wide are not the same as rooms worth entering.
