Patience

In photographs, she smiles for the camera; in memory, she is always turning away. A hand adjusting a curtain. A suitcase half‑packed. A song hummed and abandoned at the bridge.

She moved through hospitals, railway platforms, country‑club lawns—spaces built from someone else’s history—carrying a softness that never quite found a vocabulary. Polite in every language, at home in none.
